| Thank you for visiting
our web site. Let me introduce myself and tell you something about myself
and my lovely Shih Tzu. My name is Betty Meidlinger. I have been breeding
and showing Shih Tzu for thirty-four years. My granddaughter, Kailey, is
also very involved in the showing and care of our dogs. She has become
a very important part of Mei San Shih Tzu. My first Shih Tzu was Ch Greenmoss
Jezebel, an import from England. She is the one that started this all.
So far, we have 75 Champions and many in the wings waiting to get started
on their show careers. I breed for show potential dogs to improve the stock
that I am working with. Not all the puppies can be show dogs but make beautiful,
loving companions. I do testing on my dogs including the DNA test for renal
dysplasia.
My kennel name is Mei
San, which in Chinese means "my precious ones". I am a founding member
of the Twin Cities Area Shih Tzu Club and have held many offices and have
been a board member for many years. I am also a member of the American
Shih Tzu Club and was on the board for three terms. I am a member of AKC
and in good standing with them. I also belong to a number of the local
all breed dog clubs in our area.
My dogs are in their
dog rooms, which are part of our home. Puppies are raised right in the
office where there is activity. They also listen to the television when
things seem too quiet. I find that puppies need to hear the sound of children's
voices so they will not be afraid of children. So, they listen and watch
Sesame Street every day. My main concerns with raising show or companion
Shih Tzu are health and temperament. You can have the most gorgeous Shih
Tzu. But if it's not free of hereditary defects and has a bad temperament,
it is not a good Shih Tzu. Of course, we want the beauty of the Shih Tzu
also. We strive for it all.
I also do Shih Tzu
Rescue for the Twin Cities Area Shih Tzu Club. We have placed over 200
Shih Tzu in the ten years we have had the program. I have loved Shih Tzu
since I first saw them, and they have been a great asset to my life. Rescue
work is my way of giving something back to them and showing that I really
care.
